Between 1987 and 2010, the Spanish magazine Don Balón took advantage of Christmas to dress up a football player as Santa Claus and feature them on the cover to celebrate with its readers. This tradition became a true classic during the holiday season until the magazine ceased publication in August 2011. The first player with the Santa Claus costume was Diego Maradona.
